In this segment, we discuss yet another unfortunate situation where a young couple lost their deposit of $40,000 due to fraud. They were asked to pay their deposit under contract by the agent by way of a text message/email communication, which was actually issued by a fraudster posing as the agent. I decided to do this segment to help everyone out there in Australia fight against the fraud and cyber crime that is occurring in this country. If you take anything away from this segment, it is this: Never ever rely on emails, text messages, Whatsapp messages, Messenger or any other form of written communication other than by phone where a third party, (your solicitor or agent or other, service provider), asks you to pay monies into an account. You must always verify the account in person or by phone and verify you are actually talking to the right person.
