In this segment, we discuss the recent decision by the Fair Work Commission to allow 10 paid days of Family Domestic Violence Leave, a decision made in principle at this stage but nonetheless a historic step moving forward for employees and employers. In this country unfortunately domestic violence is an issue, and with this recent decision earmarks the start of a new era of employers extending their duties for providing safety in the workplace, to now provide paid domestic violence leave. Of course, this decision made in principle must be endorsed by the Federal Government and with a new government in play, let's see how long it will take for this to occur so that this form of paid leave is included in the national standards awards. For now, employers should already be starting to review their existing policies and procedures to be ready for when it is formally in place.
